For some, this time of year may be anything but joyful and wonderful. From parties to family gatherings, gift giving and year-end deadlines, the stress can add up!
If you are looking for ways to make this holiday season more enjoyable and relaxing, keep reading for three tips to help with holiday stress.
1. Plan and Prioritize: Before the holidays get busy, decide how much time and money you want to spend. Write it down and try to stick to it. When friends invite you to do something at the last minute, ask yourself: "Will this make me too tired or stressed?" It's okay to say no sometimes. You'll have more time for the things you really care about.
2. Practice Gratitude: When you feel stressed, try writing about things that make you happy or grateful. Challenge yourself to write down one good thing every day until New Year's. You could even share what you wrote with a friend or family member.
3. Pass on Perfect: You don't have to make everything perfect during the holidays. It's okay if things aren't as polished as what you see on social media or in holiday cards. Laugh when things don't go as planned. You may find greater overall happiness when you stop trying to make everything look perfect.
Remember, even the “joyful” season can create feelings of stress and anxiety, so go easy on yourself and refer to this list if you need a little cheer along the way.
